Limited To Limitless, Exceed Your Goals

D.A.N.S.E Approach to Enhance Performance

Dance is the physical manifestation of a rhythm or musical score. It presents as graceful movement that evokes emotion and enjoyment in all who participate. From the scientific point of view, it is a crescendo of synergies and kinesiology in an aligned pattern for a strong performance.

How do we accomplish both? Having the aesthetically pleasing look is key but accomplishing these difficult movements in good form prevent injuries so that all can enjoy dance for a long time.

Here at the D.A.N.S.E. Approach we have compiled science in a program that addresses dynamic alignment using the innate sequences of muscle firing to create a balance for maximum performance ability. We take the corrections that you hear in class and identify what is causing the need for correction. The area that is being corrected is generally not the cause but the effect.

Knowing your body is important because it helps you to make proper decisions in your dance career. What may be good for one person may not be good for you.

At the D.A.N.S.E. Approach we strive to educate the dancer from a “whole body” perspective as it pertains to dance movement. We have workshops on the foot, hip, pelvis and shoulder complex that identify problem areas. Addressing weaknesses and alignment issues can prevent injuries.

Contact us if you have any questions so you can continue to enjoy dancing and maximize your potential!

Injury Prevention Programs

Injury prevention? Who wants to think about injuries when you are enjoying your sport? As an athlete or avid exercise buff injury can stop you from doing what you love. If a simple flexibility or alignment self-check can prevent this from happening, why risk it? As physical therapists we see how an injury can impact not only the sport you are enjoying now but impact movement in the future. Can we predict all injuries? No, but we can identify areas that might be at risk. Our evaluation defines all the areas that commonly get injured in your sport or activity. If you are having pain, let us check you out! The painful area is usually the victim of poor muscle balance, joint alignment, foot mechanics or from insufficient recruitment from previous injuries.

Come in a schedule an appointment. You won’t be disappointed!

Senior Balance and Fall Prevention

Are you having difficulty walking on uneven surfaces? Feeling like you are out of balance? Are you limiting your activities outside? Balance is a combination of strength, body alignment, range of motion, visual changes, injury or orthopedic history. If you have had a recent surgery or injury, why not let us check out how it has impacted your balance so that you can enjoy all the activities you love.

Come in today and have us evaluate you!

Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis Prevention and Treatment
Definition of osteoporosis: A disease characterized by low bone mass and deterioration of bone tissue, which can lead to increased risk of fracture. It is a silent disease until complicated by fractures with minimal or no trauma. Only 50% of people diagnosed with osteoporosis have been tested prior to their fracture – with vertebral (spine) and hip fractures being most common as well as most debilitating, each with significant permanent disability or mortality risk.

Osteoporotic Bone
A large body of evidence supports weight-bearing and resistance exercise to increase and maintain bone density. When bones are more dense, they are much less likely to fracture. Most people do not know how to best accomplish such an exercise program unless they are instructed by a knowledgeable professional, and many people either get hurt or even bored when following a poorly designed exercise program. As physical therapists, our goal is to promote, maintain, and preserve bone health through the life span, reduce age-related bone loss, reduce fracture risk, and manage and treat bone loss, osteoporosis and fractures when required. This is a practical approach to comprehensive personal mechanical health with problem solving, focusing on developing exercise prescription along with manual therapy treatment as necessary to promote optimal bone building and balanced health.

Care objectives – Empower each body owner to:

Understand current medical evidence regarding osteoporosis as it relates to one’s own specific needs and desires.
Confidently practice a personally designed weight bearing and postural enhancement exercise program
Receive accurate flexible curve measurement of undesirable spinal alignment if needed
Practice biomechanically safe and efficient exercise and daily life movements
Receive manual therapy soft tissue techniques highlighting osteopathic muscle energy, trigger point release, myofascial unbinding, PNF with deep tissue mobilization as needed for pain and musculoskeletal imbalances
Correct postural problems such as kyphosis (rounded upper back), forward head, low back malalignment, scoliosis and ankle/hip/foot issues with customized orthotics if needed.

Foot and Ankle Health
When the feet and legs are not in healthy alignment, damaging wear and tear to all the joints and muscles above (Knee, hip, pelvis and spine) often happens, as well as such issues as plantar fasciitis and bunions, which often are the problems that drive people to seek orthotics.

Customized Orthotics can provide comfort for everyday wear, sports, and also demanding work environments. They can help prevent the cascade of dysfunctional movement and pain that will happen when ankles and feet are not supported properly.

These insoles are heat molded and carefully fitted to a person’s foot with the entire leg and foot in ideal alignment. They specifically control foot and ankle function in all 3 planes of movement (long arch, metatarsal arch, supination/pronation angle). Unlike off-the-shelf rigid orthotics (even those that are based on detailed evaluations), they allow for the natural spring function of the normal foot during walking and running.

For long-term foot and ankle wellness, it is important to work with your physical therapist to make sure that your exercises are specifically the right ones for your body and that any mechanical chain issues (knee, hip, spine) are addressed – people often “short-change” themselves after being fitted for orthotics but not following through with whole body wellness treatment.

Qi Gong is the term Chinese use to describe practices that stimulate
and strengthen the body’s energy system. We all have qi. It is our life
force. It can be balanced and powerful, or it can be out of balance,
causing our bodies to weaken. HUN YUAN QI GONG:
• Involves the circulation of vital energy and its balance so as to
maintain and improve health; therefore decreasing blockage or
imbalance of this energy which can lead to disease
• Circulates vital energy in all key points of the body, enhancing
physical mobility and tissue vitality, thus promoting healthy
integration of body, mind and spirit
• Quiets the mind, reduces stress, and promotes relaxation
• Focuses on directing the vital energy back to the central Dantian (center of energy) of the
body at the end of each exercise
• Can be done in either standing or sitting, depending on the needs of the individual
